AI-Driven Strategic Analysis

Facilitate strategic analysis and generate insights by providing GenAI with the context of your organization and strategy.

AI has demonstrated effectiveness in certain aspects of the analysis and formulation stages of the strategy process. Learn how to provide AI with contextual information about your strategy in a transparent, accountable, and privacy-conscious way.

General Principles of AI Integration

  • Transparency. BSC Designer makes it clear what data will be passed to AI. No data is passed in the background without direct user approval.
  • Accountability. Only power users with full access rights to the scorecards can use AI.
  • Data anonymisation. We don't send personal data like user name or email to AI. Such data is anonymised and is deanonymized when the response from AI is received.

Use Scenarios in Strategic Planning

The main use scenario of is strategic analysis and generating insights based on the data within the scorecard. Here are some possible questions to ask AI:

  • Analyze this strategy scorecard. Find its weak and strong points. Suggest improvements.
  • There is a "..." goal within our scorecard. What initiatives can you suggest to achieve this goal?
  • There is a "..." goal within our scorecard. How can we quantify it with leading and lagging indicators?
  • Use the data from KPIs in the scorecard to find the trends that require attention.

In the current implementation, you can ask AI for advice, but AI won't be able to introduce any changes into your scorecard. Learn more about other applications of AI in strategic planning.

Steps to Use AI

Select data that is sent to AI

Here are the steps to start using AI for your scorecard:

  1. Open any scorecard.
  2. Switch to the AI tab AI tab.
  3. Select the data that needs to be passed to AI.
  4. Click the Start Chat button.

Context for AI

When activating AI, there are various checkboxes that define what information will be passed to AI.

General information about the strategy of the organization includes data from:

  • > Settings > Organization > Organization name
  • > Settings > Strategy > Strategy Statements

General information about scorecards from the strategy workspace includes:

  • Names and descriptions of the scorecards from your account.

The information that is never sent to AI:

  • Names and emails of users
  • Documents uploaded to goals and initiatives

If you want to see specifically what data is sent to AI, you can consult the format of the respective API call.

Once data is sent to AI, we don't have control over it and it is subject to the terms of use of the GenAI service provider.

How to Improve AI Results?

Effective use of AI is about providing more context:

  • Fill in the details about the company's mission, vision, and strategic values via > Settings > Strategy > Strategy Statements.
  • Add detailed descriptions to the goals, indicators, and initiatives within the scorecard.

AI Model

BSC Designer currently uses the gpt-4o-mini by OpenAI as a GenAI provider for AI chat.

Proprietary AI models used within the organization can be connected to BSC Designer. Contact the support team with your request.

Limits of Using AI

There is a limit on using AI based on the volume of data (tokens) passed to AI as a context:

  • Free plan: 5K tokens/day
  • Paid plan: 100K tokens per power user/day

Larger data sets, such as data for all KPIs within the scorecard, consume more tokens.

How to Disable AI

The administrator of the account can disable AI for use within the account via the Enable AI Tab option in > Settings > Integrations > AI API.
