Learn risk analysis and monitoring with BSC Designer®. The free course includes training materials and practical exercises; optional practitioner certification includes a working risk prototype, individual review, and certificate.
Why Risk Analysis and Monitoring Matter for Strategy Execution
Risk analysis helps identify risk events, threats, consequences, and controls, while risk monitoring shows how risk exposure and control effectiveness change over time.
Faster change, disruptive technologies, unstable operating conditions, and changing stakeholder expectations can invalidate assumptions behind strategic plans much faster than before.
At the same time, organizations face growing exposure to critical risk events across multiple domains. Extreme weather can disrupt operations, infrastructure, and supply chains, while cybersecurity incidents can affect data, systems, and business continuity. These risks are interconnected with strategic objectives rather than remaining isolated operational concerns.
Organizations therefore need a practical way to document risks, monitor whether the controls intended to manage them are working, and use this information in decision-making without creating excessive bureaucracy.
For Individual Professionals
The program is designed for professionals involved in strategy, performance management, quality, risk, compliance, PMO, and internal consulting who need to connect risk analysis with measurable business objectives and management reporting.
Helpful background: Basic familiarity with business objectives, KPIs, or organizational risk registers is useful.
Language: Training materials and the individual review call are delivered in English.

BSC Designer® Risk Analysis and Monitoring Practitioner Certification
The certification uses the same learning materials as the free course, but adds a practical assessment, individual review, and certificate.
The certification follows three steps: learn the method, build a working risk prototype, and review it with us to demonstrate that you can apply the approach in practice.
1. Learn the Method
You receive:
- selected articles;
- training videos;
- implementation guidance;
- a 2-month BSC Designer subscription.
The materials cover Bowtie risk analysis, probability and impact, controls, indicators, risk registers, and how to connect risk monitoring with business objectives.
2. Build Your Certification Prototype
You create one working risk model in BSC Designer showing:
- the risk event;
- key threats and consequences;
- preventive and mitigation controls;
- indicators used to monitor the risk and its controls;
- the connection with the relevant business objective or context.
The prototype is the main certification assignment and demonstrates your ability to turn risk analysis into a measurable and monitorable management model.
3. Review and Certification
After completing the prototype, you join an individual review call.
You explain the logic of your model, discuss how it would be used in practice, and review common challenges that arise during real-world implementation.
After successful review, you receive the BSC Designer® Risk Analysis and Monitoring Practitioner Certificate.

Risk Analysis and Strategy Alignment Workshop
Designed for organizations that already document risks but want to make them more useful for strategy execution and management decisions.
From an Excel Risk Register to a Working Risk Model
Your organization may already have a risk register with risk descriptions, probability and impact assessments, owners, and mitigation plans. The limitation is that this information often remains separate from strategic objectives, KPIs, controls, and regular management reviews.
The workshop helps your team connect selected risks with the business context where they matter:
- which risks can affect strategic objectives;
- which controls are expected to manage those risks;
- which indicators show whether the controls are working;
- how changes in risk exposure should be reflected in strategy reviews.
Using your own risks, we build working models in BSC Designer that connect risk analysis with controls, indicators, owners, and strategic objectives.

Frequently Asked Questions
What Is the Difference Between Risk Analysis, Risk Assessment, and Risk Monitoring?
Risk analysis examines risk events, threats, consequences, and controls. Risk assessment evaluates the significance of a risk, commonly using factors such as probability and impact. Risk monitoring tracks how risk exposure and control effectiveness change over time.
Do I Need Previous Risk-Management Experience?
Basic familiarity with business objectives, KPIs, or organizational risk registers is useful. The learning materials introduce the methods needed to complete the practical exercises and, for certification participants, the certification prototype.
What Is the Difference Between the Free Course and Practitioner Certification?
The free course gives you access to the training materials and practical exercises. The practitioner certification uses the same learning materials but additionally requires you to build a working risk prototype and review it individually with the trainer. After successful review, you receive the BSC Designer® Risk Analysis and Monitoring Practitioner Certificate.
Can I Start with the Free Course and Get Certified Later?
Yes. You can start with the free course and continue with practitioner certification when you are ready to build and submit your certification prototype.
Is Bowtie the Only Method Covered?
Bowtie analysis is the core method used to structure the certification prototype. The program also covers probability and impact assessment, controls, indicators, risk registers, and alignment with business objectives.
What Do I Need to Submit for Certification?
You create a working risk prototype in BSC Designer showing a risk event, threats, consequences, controls, monitoring indicators, and the relevant business context.
How Is the Practitioner Certificate Assessed?
The assessment is based on your completed prototype and an individual review call where you explain its logic, how the controls and indicators were selected, and how the model would work in practice.
Is This an ISO 31000 Certification?
No. The certificate is issued by BSC Designer and focuses on demonstrated skills in risk analysis, monitoring, and alignment with strategy. It does not represent ISO 31000 accreditation or certification.
Can Organizations Use Their Own Risks During the Workshop?
Yes. The corporate workshop is designed around selected organizational risks, existing risk registers, or risk spreadsheets so that the resulting models can continue to be used after the workshop.
Do I Need a BSC Designer Account?
For the free course, create a free BSC Designer account and use the same email address to access the training area. No credit card is required.
The practitioner certification includes a 2-month BSC Designer subscription for developing and presenting the certification prototype.
Can BSC Designer Certificates Be Verified?
Yes. BSC Designer® certificates can be verified online using the certificate holder’s name and certificate details.
