Strategy Architecture in Education — 2026 Benchmark

Our Strategy Execution Architecture Benchmark 2026 included an inferred education cohort of 32 organizations.

The median education implementation contained five scorecards across three hierarchy levels, compared with five scorecards across two levels in the overall benchmark. Education was the only sufficiently represented industry cohort with a median hierarchy depth of three levels.

Differences became more pronounced among the most extensive implementations. At the 90th percentile, education had approximately 123 KPIs per scorecard—the highest KPI density among the eligible industries—but only 13 scorecards, the lowest P90 scorecard count among those industries.

For higher education, this observed pattern is consistent with institutions that translate shared strategic priorities into more detailed measurement across faculties, schools, departments, academic programs, and administrative functions. In other words, complexity may be absorbed through richer KPI structures within scorecards rather than through scorecard proliferation alone.

The education category was inferred from organizational context and may include educational organizations beyond higher education. The findings describe observed BSC Designer implementations and do not establish an ideal number of hierarchy levels, scorecards, or KPIs.
